Wild Tiger Love
The record has the same mainstream approach as its both predecessors but is totally different for some reasons. It’s a product of it’s time again – the vinyl came in orange – but we hear catchy melodies after a very long time. Most of the songs were co-written by Hans Pukke who’s fine acoustic guitar work sounds very delicate here. Again a lot of love songs (some happy, some sad) but in very relaxed arrangement settings. Not less as a step forward and his best record in Kevin’s German years so far but of course without the intense of his English days. Keytracks: Go Sally go; Raindrops on the window. (Uwe Schillhabel)
Whenever I break open a new (to me) Kevin Coyne album I can’t escape the sensation of being transported to a strange new land, as though Coyne’s music is the key to a portal to another dimension, like Narnia’s wardrobe, Alice’s rabbit hole, Lyra’s bridges between worlds, or platform 9 3/4s on King’s Cross station. The strange sense of wonder when first encountering that nasally voice never seems to diminish and attempting to decipher his quite frankly absurd lyrical outpourings is a total joy.
